19th-century marble pedestal carved with swords, helmets, shields, and ribbons. Egg-and-dart detail is topped with a hand- etched bronze-equated sundial. This three-dimensional sundial takes the change in the length of days throughout the year into consideration. Engraved with the verse “Take tent o tyme ere tyme take tint” and the names “J. Marsh” and “Londini” (Latin for London). The verse is the same as on the sundial that was mounted on St David’s Chapel in Stormontfield, Scotland to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria (1837-1897). Origin: Scotland. An RT Facts Find.
