The Chinese were the earliest known makers of cast iron, the technique dating thousands of years back to the Zhou Dynasty. These tubs likely date from the mid 1800’s, with the lavish floral ornamentation, stylized dragon feet, and rings being consistent with examples from the Shanxi province. Age has given these two tubs a rich brown rust patina, a significant crack in one of the tubs, and both have lost a ring on the backside. Impressive in their size and character, these tubs would make a statement flanking an entry, or lend ancient charm to a garden setting. Sold as a pair. An RT Facts Find.
