A monumental pair of 18th C. George III style carved limestone pineapple finials on bases, circa 1760, and meticulously carved during the reign of King George III (1738-1820). This pair is in original condition, with remnants of old paint and no evidence of restoration. Each final features deep and detailed  carving of the pineapple body and the acanthus leaf surround. They are atop a round socle with square plinth.

George III was an active and passionate gardener responsible for the construction of Pinery in the greenhouse at Windsor Castle. During his reign, pineapples became the symbol of a sophisticated pallet and were incorporated into architectural decoration, interiors, and greenhouses. In America, the pineapple became a symbol of welcome and hospitality. This pair was sold by Seago Antiques in London over 30 years ago. In good antique condition with wear consistent with age. Priced and sold as a pair. An RT Facts Find.
